Mike Baldoza uses second round 14 under 22 to dominate play at the second event of the year at the Lake Charles Putt-Putt.

March 5th, 2006

Kenny Beck would hold the opening round lead with 11 under 25 on Sunday. The 25 would be good enough for a one stroke lead over Danny Tatum and Byron Kirby with Lee Messinger, Mike Baldoza and Brice Bergesen all sitting two strokes behind Kenny. The second round would see Mike Baldoza take over the event with a 14 under 22, the best round on the day by three strokes. His two round total of 23 under 49 would be good enough to give him four stroke lead over Kirby. A solid last round of 9 under 27 would seal the win Baldoza and give him a state spot. Kirby and Brice Bergesen finished tied for second six strokes back. Additional state spots went to Steve Tanton and Lee Messinger in match play competition.

Blasting out of the starting blocks at 10 under par and never looking back, Lloyd Navarro, Jr. of Marrero, LA went wire to wire, holding off a last round charge from Mickey DeLucca of Baton Rouge, LA. to take a one stroke victory.

Navarro opened strong, firing 10 under par in the first round. A group of four, including Saturday's winner Ken Stanfill, Mike Huckaby, Jack Ramsey, and Greg Simpson were all tied--two strokes back. In the second round, Navarro fired yet another 10 under par round and was in the clubhouse with the 36 hole lead at 52. Simpson kept the pace with the leader, and was two strokes back at 54. Also with a second round 10 under par, Delucca was one more stroke back at 55. Navarro backed up a little in the final round, only shooting 8 under par to finish with a three round total 80. DeLucca came on strong again in the final round with another 10 under par, but fell a stroke short to settle for a second place finish. Huckaby, who struggled a little in the second round, mounted a great comeback in the final round to finish alone in third at 84. Trevor Lewin was two strokes back at 86 for a forth place finish and the final expense reimbursement slot.
